We're off!!! WE left home this morning around 10:30. A turkey flew over the car just as we pulled away--pretty sure that's a good sign (at least she didn't poop on us.
OK, first of all, Heather is on crack. Heather is what my GPS program named it's voice. Really, if it isn't crack, it's something worse. She did not have ANY training for this job. she loves to send us the wrong way then send us in a circle to get back to where we just were. Fortunately, we are in New England, and the countryside is beautiful. We should know--we have seen it several times! Next problem: the setting on the program is for shortest route. Boy, you should see the tiny roads and villages we have been through. Picturesque, though!!! Third, we tried to fire Heather and hire a guy we could call Brad. THEY HAVE NO GUY VOICES!! Man, what a ripoff.
We stopped and said hi to everyone at the clinic before we left (HI LADIES!!!). Then we had a celebratory piece of pizza at Quinto's (HI JOSH). Heather tried to send us all the way down 49 to Rome and we said no way. We had to listen to her whine all the way to the Thruway. Every exit--"turn here, turn here.". Crackhead.
We made Massachusetts a little after 2 pm. There is still ice where the road is carved through the hills, and still some snow in places. We stopped at a rest stop--NO PICNIC TABLES. So we got our little stove out and sat on the curb and cooked our soup. Greg, the grill doesn't heat a pan at all. The little burner works great! We had a bit of trouble blocking the wind effectively. We got some looks and laughs from other travelers, and one lady said she was sure it was safer the McDonald's, which was in the building.
We decided to wash our dishes when we got to the campground, so we just packed up. We saw John Kerry as we were leaving the rest stop--license plate Kerry1!!
The dishes were rattling a lot, so Barb decided to rearrange when we stopped for a photo (at the Publick House). Unfortunately (she told me to tell this), all the dishes fell out, and the bowls broke. Too bad, so sad. No big deal.
Connecticut at 5:11. No thanks to Heather again, we arrived at the campground around 6. The office closes at 4, with a note saying just check in after 8am tomorrow. Our site is beautiful (and we could actually have any site we want; there is no one else here. Our closest neighbors are portapotties (portaloos) and chiomunks. We overlook a really nice lake, and we are pretty far off the driveway. We got the tent set up easily, and wandered around a bit. Now we are eating hot chili by lamplight. We have enough dead wood around to have a little fire tonight, so we will have our s'mores.
After our walk, we couldn't find the iPad anywhere. We searched all over, tore the car apart, and were disillusioned that a dog-walking guy had stolen it while we were walking. OK, it was on the hood of the car. (Barb says it was in the BONNET). Senior moment. Then we thought the keys were lost...... Barb says go to bed before we find any more trouble.
Peepers and other frogs a singing, it's breezy and cool--heavenly. Will be great sleeping.
EVERYBODY: the Apple geniuses did NOT fix mybiPad so I can send emails. Sorry--this is our only mode of communication.
Tomorrow: Brown University!!!
Night night, sleep tight, don't let the _______bugs bite.
Now, where are those keys? pepper spray? ........
See you tomorrow, Thelma and Louise
Glad I got out the little stove so you could take it with you, had my doubts about the grill heating stuff with the cover off.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Ipod/gps go to settings and change it to fastest route, should get you back on the main roads. I also think that you can download more voices, maybe you can get a stud muffin that will give you directions instead of the crackhead
Sounds like you two are having way to much fun
